Child with aplastic anemia from Kyrgyzstan regains health in Malatya

Aruuzat's family, after researching their daughter's aplastic anemia (the bone marrow's inability to produce enough or any new cells), learned that treatment was available in Malatya and applied to the hospital about 8 months ago. When there was no response to medical treatments in the examinations, no suitable donor could be found despite searches in Türkiye and abroad.

After the doctors' evaluation, it was decided to perform a half-matched stem cell transplant from the mother, a rarely applied method.

With a successful operation performed in a short time, little Aruuzat regained her health.

Prof. Dr. Arzu Akyay, head of the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Center, said there was no transplant option in the patient's country.

Saying that they perform important and successful transplants as a unit, Akyay said: "Her cells have now engrafted and are working. We have planned her discharge, and God willing she will return to her country in good health. She is quite well right now." Dr. Yurday Öncül, Assist. Prof. at the center, emphasized the importance of early screening in aplastic anemia cases and said children with a family history of this disease should be monitored.

Mother Kamchybek Kuzu Nariza said she was very happy that her daughter had regained her health.

Thanking everyone who helped, Kamchybek Kuzu Nariza said: "Thank God our Aruuzat has recovered. They took very good care of us here. Thank God my daughter is well and can eat. There are many sick children in Kyrgyzstan; I tell them too to come here. May the children recover and may children's lives be beautiful. May no child experience this disease."
