Liver transplant performed during pregnancy; she regained her health and her baby
İpek Demir, 27, who lives in Şanlıurfa, was diagnosed with liver failure after her liver enzymes came back high at a check-up during pregnancy.
Referred to İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center for treatment, Demir was decided by the doctors to undergo a liver transplant in the 15th week of pregnancy. Her sister was found suitable as the donor, and tissue taken from her liver was transplanted in a successful operation.
Her pregnancy was then closely monitored by specialist doctors, and Demir gave birth in good health.
